Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is alive, despite reports claiming he was killed during an attack by the US and Israel.
“Elchi” reports that Iran’s “Mehr” agency reported this, citing “reliable sources”.
The agency’s report states: “Despite rumors circulating in Israeli media, Hojjat-ul-Islam-ul-Muslimeen Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei is in full health.”
It is noted that currently, 56-year-old Mojtaba Khamenei is engaged in family affairs and is studying state affairs.
In Western media, Mojtaba Khamenei’s name is mentioned as a potential successor to his father, Ali Khamenei. According to CNN, he is the primary candidate for the post of Iran’s Supreme Leader. The channel highlighted that Khamenei’s son has close ties with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the “Basij” popular militia.
However, as journalists have noted, one of the main reasons preventing his appointment to the post of Supreme Leader is that he is not a high-ranking cleric and does not hold an official role. Furthermore, the transfer of posts from father to son is not supported in Iran.
