Full ban on Russian-language content in public places in Ukraine

Legislative changes are being prepared in Ukraine that provide for a complete ban on Russian-language cultural content in public spaces, regardless of the citizenship of the performers.

elchi reports, citing “RBC”, that the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Elena Ivanovskaya, stated this in an interview with “Hromadske”.

She emphasized that relevant amendments are being prepared to the current language legislation and the law “On Culture”.

“We are talking about Russian-language musical works, which, unfortunately, are still listened to, and sometimes performed, by Ukrainian citizens in the public sphere,” Ivanovskaya noted.

Currently, restrictions apply to the public performance of musical works by Russian citizens. The proposed changes provide for the complete application of the ban on Russian-language content, regardless of the author or performer.

We remind you that in 2019, a law came into force in Ukraine establishing the dominance of the Ukrainian language in certain areas of public life.
