Czech President Urges Europe to Join Peace Talks on Ukraine

Europe must make a more active effort to participate in peace talks on Ukraine.

elchi reports that Czech President Petr Pavel stated this at the “Berlin Global Dialogue” security conference.

“Europe must work much more actively to become a participant in the negotiation process on Ukraine,” said the Czech president. Europe must develop its own unified security strategy that it can bring to the negotiations.

Pavel noted that so far, only three parties have participated in peace talks on Ukraine: the US, Russia, and Ukraine. This is partly explained by Europe’s lack of a “clear and unified European position.” This position, according to him, should also take into account the security interests of non-EU countries, such as Great Britain and Norway.

According to the Czech leader, Europeans will have to reconcile with the risk that their welfare levels may not increase or even decrease due to the necessity of investing in their own defense.
