US Government May Be Behind Speed Reduction of Ukrainian Drones: Musk

Elon Musk has stated that the US government may be behind the restrictions on the speed of some Ukrainian weapons, which are connected to SpaceX’s Starlink internet network.
elchi reports that Starlink has been a crucial tool for Kyiv, enabling them to protect their airspace and direct drones towards Russian targets. However, late Tuesday, the Ukrainian side announced that unexpected new speed restrictions were hindering battlefield operations.
One of Zelensky’s advisors stated that these restrictions are likely not coincidental and are related to recent tensions between Kyiv and Washington.
Musk noted that Starshield, the military-grade version of Starlink, is under the control of the US government, and any restrictions on speed or usage are determined by US military officials, and ultimately, the US president.
Responding via the ‘X’ platform to calls from Ukrainian officials, including Zelensky who told the British media, “I hope this is a mistake, perhaps a serious technical problem. I don’t know, but we want it resolved,” Musk addressed requests for full connectivity restoration.
Starlink, owned by Musk’s SpaceX, imposed a speed limit of 160 kilometers per hour late Tuesday night, meaning any weapon moving faster than that loses connection to the network.
Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s former minister of digital transformation (overseeing defense-related technologies), announced that connectivity had been partially restored as of Tuesday evening.
Fedorov, posting on the ‘X’ platform, emphasized that the complete removal of the speed limit on the Starshield system is currently critical for Ukraine’s defense. He thanked Elon Musk and asked for his continued support.
