Some of Europe’s key defense powers and US allies – including the UK, France, and the Baltic states – have not been invited to a Pentagon-organized meeting to discuss NATO matters.
elchi reports that the publication “Politico” provided this information.
As the publication noted, the US administration has excluded a number of key allies from the NATO members’ meeting scheduled for next month. Washington had previously threatened to compile a “good” and “bad” list of governments based on whether they compromised US priorities.
According to six diplomats, the meeting planned to be held in Poland at the initiative of Elbridge Colby, a high-ranking official for policy at the Pentagon, is essentially a working group dedicated to the future of NATO. However, many countries not invited, such as the UK, France, and the Baltic states, allocate significant funds to defense and play an important role in the alliance; as the publication noted, this situation raises a question among the diplomats of those countries: is the administration exhibiting a biased stance that could further fragment an already struggling alliance?
“We are doing everything required of us. We are trying to understand the criteria and purpose of these meetings. So far, we have been given very little information,” said a representative of one of the allied countries excluded from the list of participants.
Earlier, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that American billionaire Elon Musk would join the leadership of a new Pentagon entity. According to him, the entity will create a division focused on studying future methods of warfare.
