Four days of meteor shower in October

“The Draconid meteor shower will be observed from October 6-10. The peak of the meteor shower will occur around 23:00 on October 9, when 5 meteors per hour are expected to be observed.”

According to information provided to elchi from the Department of Astrophysics of the Faculty of Physics of Baku State University (BSU), the meteor shower is known by this name because its source (radiant) is located in the Draco constellation.

It was reported that the Draconid meteor shower is mainly well observed from the Northern Hemisphere. Azerbaijan is also located in a favorable geographical position for observation. One of the important differences of the Draconids from other meteor showers is that they are favorable for observation in the evening and early night.

The peak of the Draconid meteor shower in 2026, coinciding with approximately 23:00 Baku time, is favorable for Azerbaijani observers. In addition, since the peak falls on the New Moon phase, there will be no moonlight. A telescope or binoculars are not needed to observe the meteor shower. It is more appropriate to choose an open and dark area away from city lights and observe as much of the sky as possible with the naked eye.
