NATO has clearly stated to Russia that the alliance’s goals are defensive.
elchi reports that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte made this statement in Brussels.
“We have stated that we are a defensive alliance,” he said, answering a question about how the alliance would react to Russia’s warnings regarding the Kaliningrad region.
He refused to comment on the content of the letter sent by Russia to NATO. “I think it is their business to talk about its content,” the Secretary General emphasized, referring to the Russian side.
He noted that there is currently no risk of nuclear weapons being used against NATO.
Rutte also emphasized that there is no information indicating that Russia is preparing an attack on the alliance. “There is no direct threat. If they concentrate their forces, we will see it,” he stated.
