The “Mingachevir Regatta-2026” international rowing and canoe competition, jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Water Sports Federation, has been launched in Fuzuli – at the Kondalen reservoir.
elchi reports that at the opening ceremony, the State Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was first played, and the memory of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity was honored with a minute of silence.
Speaking with an opening address, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov spoke about the importance of rowing competitions organized in Sugovushan, Kondalen, and Sarsang since 2022, and emphasized the state’s care for sports and athletes. The minister congratulated the athletes on the upcoming sports holiday and wished them success.
Before the competitions, exemplary performances by athletes in dragon boats and kayaks were demonstrated at the Kondalen reservoir. Then, competitions for various age groups began.
Members of our national team won 4 medals on the first day of the competition held in Fuzuli.
Among athletes born in 2008–2009, in the 1-person kayak race over 200 meters, Alimurad Hajizade finished first, and Nuran Rahimli finished second. Thus, the first gold and silver medals were added to the Azerbaijan team’s tally.
Among athletes born in 2010–2011, in the 1-person kayak race over 200 meters, Elmir Tarverdiyev took third place. Another athlete, Huseyn Samadli, won a bronze medal in the 1-person canoe race over 200 meters among those born in 2008–2009.
The event was met with great interest and enthusiasm by residents who moved to Fuzuli and sports enthusiasts from surrounding districts.
It should be noted that the “Mingachevir Regatta-2026” international competition will continue on September 30 and October 1 at the “Kur” Olympic Training and Sports Center in Mingachevir city.
