More than 50 members of the country’s security forces have been killed in two attacks in western Niger, in the Sahel region where jihadist groups, including a regional branch of the “Islamic State,” are active.
“Elchi” reports that two security sources disclosed this information to “Reuters”.
According to the sources, a convoy of gendarmes was ambushed near the town of Abala-Filingue last Wednesday. On Saturday, more than 30 soldiers were killed in a separate attack in the town of Birni-Nkonni.
The sources stated that the attacks were carried out by terrorists but did not provide further details.
