During his visit to France, Pope Leo XIV called on Paris to contribute to global dialogue and diplomacy against the backdrop of the world facing a new phase of the arms race.

“The false belief that possessing nuclear weapons is a guarantee of security is becoming increasingly widespread. However, in reality, this fuels a new arms race that is difficult to control,” the pontiff stated during his speech.
He noted that “one must never resign oneself to the prospect of war as if it were inevitable.” According to him, “it is necessary to promote dialogue and diplomacy to protect societies that strive for peace and respect the dignity and rights of people and nations.”
Speaking at the Élysée Palace, the Pope emphasized that in a world dominated by “the sound of weapons and multifaceted crises,” France must remain “a tireless creator of peace and multilateralism,” especially in “our native Europe.”
The pontiff also touched upon the development of artificial intelligence, calling for the formation of “ethical foresight” in this matter. He warned about the arrival of a “machine paradise that interferes with our daily lives and defines our way of living.”
