The Pentagon’s Inspector General has acknowledged ammunition shortages resulting from a war with Iran.
“Elchi” reports that the Pentagon’s Inspector General stated that a war with Iran has caused ammunition shortages and difficulties in replenishing stocks. The BBC reported this, citing official data.
The report notes that this assessment contradicts statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding virtually unlimited ammunition supplies.
The independent oversight body stated that the U.S. spent more than $22 billion on ammunition between February and June, which resulted in a “strategic reserve shortage.” The report also identified “industrial base limitations” that hinder the replenishment of stocks.
According to the BBC, the report further notes that the Pentagon is currently working to “optimize procurement processes and production timelines” in order to address the shortages and “respond flexibly to unforeseen situations.”
However, the White House has rejected the assessments in the report.
