AZAL’s Baku-Nakhchivan flights delayed due to lightning weather conditions

A number of Baku-Nakhchivan-Baku flights scheduled for August 29, 2026, by Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) have been delayed due to lightning weather conditions.

According to the information provided to “Elchi” by the Press Service of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC, flights will resume once weather conditions stabilize. Passengers will be informed in detail about any possible changes.

Due to the geographical location and mountainous terrain of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the meteorological conditions observed in the region can directly affect flight operations. In particular, strong winds, sudden changes in wind direction, and lightning activity create additional risks during landing and takeoff phases.

It is important to note that the decision to delay or cancel flights due to weather conditions is not based solely on the weather observed by the passenger at the airport. Decisions are made based on current and forecasted meteorological conditions along the route, as well as at the departure and arrival airports.

Since such meteorological events have a serious impact on flight safety, the crew and operational services make appropriate decisions in accordance with international aviation safety standards.
