Turkish UAV violated Greek airspace: F-16s scrambled

On Friday morning, a Turkish unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) entered Greece’s area of responsibility and violated its airspace in the sea zone between the islands of Samothrace and Lemnos.

“Elchi” reports that this was stated by the “Kathimerini” publication.

The UAV approached Alexandroupolis airport just as a passenger plane belonging to the “Aegean” airline was preparing for takeoff. In response, the Hellenic Air Force scrambled two F-16 fighter jets to detect, identify, and intercept the aircraft.

Thanks to the cooperation between the Civil Aviation Authority and the Hellenic Air Force, it was possible to move the UAV away from the airport area without posing a threat to the passenger flight. During this time, for safety reasons, the route of the “Aegean” plane was altered, and it was instructed to maintain a low altitude until it cleared the danger zone.
