Despite Europe’s efforts to reduce its dependence on Russian energy supplies, the volume of liquefied natural gas (LNG) imported by the EU from Russia has increased again.
“Elchi” reports that, according to data from the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) cited by the “Welt am Sonntag” newspaper, EU countries purchased 14% more Russian LNG in June compared to the same period a year earlier.
Furthermore, according to the German publication “Bild”, the organization estimates that Russia’s daily revenue from energy exports to Europe has risen to 60 million euros. France accounted for the largest share of these Russian LNG purchases.
However, a full EU ban on the import of Russian LNG under long-term contracts will come into effect on January 1, 2027. Imports based on short-term contracts have already been banned.
