Due to the intensifying heatwave in Italy, the highest level “red alert” warning has been issued for all 27 major cities.
“Elchi” reports that, according to Italy’s ANSA agency, the extreme heat continuing in the country is negatively affecting daily life.
According to the bulletin published by the Italian Ministry of Health, two more cities have been added to the level 3 “red alert” system, which was already in effect in 25 cities.
In some areas of the cities under the red alert, air temperatures are expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius, and the heatwave is forecast to last for at least a week.
The Ministry of Health stated that the “level 3” red alert means that prolonged extreme heat poses a health risk to the entire population. The ministry noted that the warning covers not only the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses, but also healthy individuals.
Italy is experiencing its fourth severe heatwave this year, and previous heatwaves have caused deaths due to extreme temperatures.
