The draft law has already been submitted for review and is expected to come into force in 2027. A transition period until April 1, 2027, is planned for social networks. Platforms will be required to either remove addictive elements or restrict access for minors. Fines of up to 6% of a company’s annual turnover are envisaged for violating the rules.

In addition, access to adult websites will only be possible after verifying adulthood via the “ID Austria” system or a private provider. In this process, only information confirming that the user is 18 years of age or older will be transmitted to the sites.
