An elderly man lost his life after being struck by lightning during a storm in the Elmadağ district of the capital, Ankara.
Due to the influence of cool and rainy weather coming from the Balkans, heavy downpours and storms are being observed in many parts of Turkey, primarily in Istanbul and Ankara. The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued warnings for 35 provinces.
In Ankara’s Mamak district, a road collapsed due to heavy rain, causing a car to fall into a sinkhole. A primary school wall collapsed, and floodwaters swept away couriers’ motorcycles. An underpass on Turgut Özal Boulevard in the Altındağ district was also flooded.
In Istanbul’s Güngören district, an underpass was submerged under water.
