Number of unemployed in Azerbaijan

As of July 1, 2026, the number of unemployed persons registered with local branches of the State Employment Agency amounted to 248.5 thousand people.

“Elchi” reports that this figure has increased by 1.6 thousand people or 0.6% compared to April 1, 2026.

As of July 1, women accounted for 52.3% of registered unemployed persons. At the beginning of April, the share of women was 51.7%. Thus, during the quarter, the specific weight of unemployed women among the total unemployed increased by 0.6 percentage points.

The average monthly amount of unemployment insurance payments has also increased. While the average monthly payment was 475.8 manats as of July 1, this figure was 475 manats on April 1. The quarterly increase was 0.8 manats or 0.2%.

It should be noted that at the beginning of the year, the number of registered unemployed persons was 239.8 thousand, 51.9% of whom were women. The average monthly amount of unemployment insurance payment was 452.8 manats.

According to preliminary data as of July 1, 2026, the number of economically active population in the country amounted to 5 million 417.7 thousand people. Of these, 5 million 137.1 thousand people were employed. Based on these indicators, the number of unemployed in the country was 280.6 thousand people, and the unemployment rate was approximately 5.2%.

For comparison, as of April 1, 2026, the number of economically active population was 5 million 389.8 thousand people, and the number of employed population was 5 million 108.4 thousand people. During that period, the number of unemployed was approximately 281.4 thousand people, and the unemployment rate was at the level of 5.2%.

Thus, during the second quarter, the number of economically active population increased by 27.9 thousand people or 0.5%, and the number of employed population increased by 28.7 thousand people or 0.6%. According to calculations, the number of unemployed decreased by 0.8 thousand people, and the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.2%.

As of June 1, 2026, the number of wage earners in the country amounted to 1 million 790.6 thousand people. 859.9 thousand of them worked in the public sector, and 930.7 thousand worked in the non-public sector. 30.5 thousand of wage earners fell to the oil and gas sector, and 1 million 760.1 thousand fell to the non-oil and gas sector.
