On July 22, European Union (EU) countries confirmed the United Kingdom’s participation in a 90 billion euro loan support program for Ukraine.
According to elchi, this decision will allow Kyiv to purchase weapons and other military products from British manufacturers to meet its most urgent defense needs in 2026-2027.
The information states that the UK’s participation will expand the range of defense product suppliers available to Ukraine under the program.
Previously, funding was limited to purchases from manufacturers in EU countries, European Economic Area states, and other approved third countries.
Of the program’s total volume, 60 billion euros will be directed toward the development of Ukraine’s defense-industrial complex, investments, and arms procurement, while another 30 billion euros will be allocated for direct budgetary and economic support to Ukraine.
“The EU’s solidarity with Ukraine remains one of the key priorities of the Irish presidency,” said Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs Helen McEntee, who holds the EU presidency.
According to the Council of the EU, since the start of the program’s implementation, 8.1 billion euros have already been transferred to Ukraine, including 3.2 billion euros for budgetary support and approximately 4.9 billion euros for defense needs.
