The death toll from the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 continues to rise. President of the National Assembly Jorge Rodriguez announced that the number of deaths has reached 5,208, and the number of injured has reached 16,740.

Rodriguez noted that the number of deaths in the disaster increased by 89 to reach 5,208, and the number of injured reached 16,740.
Rodriguez stated that 23,820 people are staying in 107 temporary shelters and that aid has been delivered to 128,324 families so far.
According to national media, a total of 1,388 aftershocks have been recorded in the region since the earthquakes on June 24.
Venezuela’s reconstruction plan
The Venezuelan Ministry of Environment announced progress in the “Environmental Restoration Plan” launched to clean up and rebuild the coastline of La Guaira, the city most affected by the earthquakes. In a statement released on the ministry’s official Instagram account, it was stated that native plant species will be planted to restore the ecological balance and ecosystem of the coastline.
Meanwhile, Minister of Environment Nelson Rodriguez told the press that 2,106,000 tons of debris have been collected in the region following the double earthquake, a figure determined by assessment modeling conducted as part of joint efforts between the Venezuelan government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
