As a result of the riots that occurred during the march of the “Cockroach Janta Party” (CJP) youth movement to the Indian Parliament, 118 police officers and nearly 60 protesters were injured.
“Elchi” reports, citing “India Today”, that the capital’s police have released information regarding this incident.
It was noted that among the injured are more than five officers from the elite IPS (Indian Police Service).
“The protesters acted aggressively and resorted to violence. Two police buses were attacked, shops on Janpath Avenue were looted, and demonstrators threw stones and other objects at police officers, engaging in large-scale acts of violence. As a result of the looting, 15-20 government vehicles were damaged. Attempts to disperse the demonstration led to clashes with the police. As a result of operational measures, more than 70 people have been detained,” the statement noted.
The police stated that strict measures will be taken against all individuals involved in illegal actions and violence.
It was noted that marches and protest actions are taking place throughout the state of Maharashtra, and negotiations between the authorities and the movement’s leaders have ended without results. On the morning of July 20, Delhi police used batons and tear gas against participants of the “Chalo Sansad” (“March to Parliament”) action. The action is being held by the CJP movement following a scandal involving the leakage of exam materials and the postponement of a medical exam. According to the organizers, the action brought together 40,000 activists.
