The European Union (EU) has failed to reach an agreement on a new — the 21st — package of sanctions against Russia ahead of the bloc’s foreign ministers’ meeting.
“Elchi” reports that, according to Reuters, this was announced by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.
The EU’s top diplomat stated: “We hope to reach an agreement on 250 Russian individuals and legal entities. This is the largest number we have agreed upon so far. As for the 21st package, there are still some open questions.”
On July 10, the news portal “Euractiv” reported that the European Commission (EC) had removed the strictest provisions from the planned 21st package of sanctions against Russia.
The draft document included a clause imposing an automatic visa ban on all military personnel who had participated in combat operations in Ukraine. However, France, Italy, and Greece, whose economies depend on Russian tourists, opposed this measure.
