Legal assistance requested from Azerbaijan for DNA analysis regarding a murder in Montenegro

A request for legal assistance received from the Republic of Montenegro has been executed by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to the information, the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office executed a request for legal assistance received from the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Montenegro via EUROJUST concerning a particularly serious crime.

The request was submitted within the framework of criminal proceedings regarding a case of intentional homicide that occurred on the territory of the Republic of Montenegro.

The application requested the collection of necessary DNA samples and the execution of other procedural actions for the purpose of comparative analysis of biological samples taken from Rovshan Samadov, born in 1970, who is suspected of committing the crime, as well as from the close relatives of Sirudin Sharifov, born in 2001, who is suspected of assisting in concealing the crime after its commission, and from the crime scene and other objects relevant to the criminal case.

During the execution of the request by the Investigation Department, statements were taken from the relevant persons, biological samples were collected from the individuals concerned, DNA analysis was conducted, and DNA profiles were obtained.

The documents and expert materials collected as a result of the execution of the legal assistance request were sent to the competent authority of the Republic of Montenegro in the manner established within the framework of international legal cooperation.

It was stated that the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan continues its cooperation with the competent authorities of foreign states, including EUROJUST and other international partners, in the direction of combating transnational crime, providing legal assistance in criminal cases, and strengthening international cooperation.
