Jeyhun Bayramov: Azerbaijan has completed its work on finalizing the peace agreement

Azerbaijan has completed its work on finalizing the peace agreement.

“Elchi” reports that Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said this in a statement to journalists.

The Minister stated that a joint statement was signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia within the framework of the Washington Summit: “The text of the peace agreement has already been initialed, and the text is open to the public. The Azerbaijani side’s approach to this is principled. President Ilham Aliyev has stated the official position of the state. Our expectation is the removal of territorial claims against Azerbaijan from the Armenian Constitution. Only after that can the peace agreement be signed.”

Jeyhun Bayramov noted that Prime Minister Pashinyan reiterated after the parliamentary elections that steps are being taken towards adopting a new Constitution in Armenia: “The main point that interests and concerns us is the territorial claims against Azerbaijan in the Declaration of Independence. Once this is resolved, our expectation is that this work will be completed soon.”

It should be noted that the Declaration of Independence contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan. The Declaration of Independence includes a clause regarding the necessity of uniting the former Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia. Azerbaijan objects to this and puts forward the amendment of the Constitution as a condition for signing a peace agreement with Armenia.
