The meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his American counterpart Donald Trump, which will take place within the framework of the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit, creates two distinct agendas.
elchi reports that Burhanettin Duran, Head of the Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidency, shared this on his “X” social network account.
“Our President’s meeting, together with Mr. Trump’s visit, actually creates two important agendas. One is the NATO Summit, and the other is Mr. President Trump’s state visit,” he stated, adding that this is why the visit is significant.
B. Duran also touched upon the topics to be discussed by the leaders:
“There are many bilateral issues that have been kept on the agenda during our President’s phone calls with Mr. Trump. You know some of them. On one hand, there was the issue of ‘KAAN’ engines. Previously, there was the ‘Halkbank issue’. There are also other issues that Turkey is conducting with the US within the framework of defense and security cooperation.
Thus, all of these are expected to be on the agenda. Naturally, along with this, our trade agenda with the US is important, as you know. All of these topics will be discussed.”
It should be recalled that the Trump administration, despite objections from Congress, plans to approve the sale of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of jet engines to Turkey. We are talking about “General Electric” engines that will be used in Turkey’s fighter jet “KAAN”.
