US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed agreements between Washington and Tehran, as well as ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, during a meeting held in Abu Dhabi.
“Elchi” reports that this was stated in a written statement by the head of the State Department’s press office, Tommy Pigott.
“They discussed US President Donald Trump’s memorandum of understanding with Iran, efforts to ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the importance of peace and stability in the region,” the document notes. According to Pigott, the US Secretary of State and the UAE President also spoke about “future cooperation in the fields of defense and trade.” Rubio “reaffirmed the US commitment to the security of the UAE.”
