The US has officially reinstated sanctions against Russian oil

The US license authorizing operations related to the transport, sale, or offloading of Russian oil and petroleum products loaded onto vessels as of April 17, 2026, expired at 08:01 Baku time.

elchi reports that this was stated by “Lenta.ru”.

From that moment on, American sanctions against Russia’s largest exporters have been reinstated. The license did not apply to operations involving persons and entities associated with Iran, North Korea, Cuba, the Republic of Crimea, and the new regions.

The suspension of restrictive measures by the US was caused by the conflict that began in the Middle East in late February. Against the backdrop of strikes by Israel and the US on Iran, the leadership of the Islamic Republic closed the Strait of Hormuz, which sharply reduced oil supplies to the world market and caused prices to rise.

The license for Russian oil is issued for a period of one month. However, last time, the current permit expired on May 16, and a new one was issued only on May 18.
