Korea and OpenAI unite against artificial intelligence risks

South Korea has become the fourth country in the world to sign an artificial intelligence safety cooperation agreement with OpenAI, the developer of “ChatGPT”.

“Elchi” reports that, according to the “Yonhap” agency, this was announced by the country’s Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology.

According to the memorandum of understanding, South Korea’s Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (AISI) and OpenAI will work together to create a global system for assessing the safety of artificial intelligence.

The document also provides for the exchange of technical data to develop a methodology for assessing the risks of artificial intelligence, taking into account the characteristics of the Korean language and the country’s social context.

Previously, OpenAI had signed similar agreements with relevant agencies in the US, the UK, and Japan.

The ministry noted that this new partnership will strengthen South Korea’s position in the international cooperation network for assessing the risks of advanced artificial intelligence systems and developing relevant safety standards.

In the near future, representatives of AISI and OpenAI are expected to hold a working meeting to agree on practical interaction mechanisms.
