Spain is investing 719 million euros in the creation of an artificial intelligence “gigafactory”.
“Elchi” reports that the press service of the Spanish Ministry of Digital Transformation has announced this.
“The Council of Ministers has authorized today the allocation of an investment of 719 million euros to a public-private consortium that will develop an advanced artificial intelligence ‘gigafactory’ and will soon apply to participate in the competition to be announced by the European Commission,” the agency noted.
According to Minister Óscar López, these investments are a confirmation of the Spanish government’s commitment to technological sovereignty, reindustrialization, and leadership in the field of reliable and sustainable artificial intelligence.
Thanks to this project, companies will be able to implement innovations faster and compete more successfully in the market, while the scientific sector will gain access to expensive infrastructure. Among the goals of the initiative, country officials specifically highlighted the reduction of technological dependence and ensuring that the development of artificial intelligence is carried out in accordance with European standards.
Artificial intelligence “gigafactories” are massive centers designed to house hundreds of thousands of graphics processors.
