One sailor was killed and another was detained following a shooting on board the American aircraft carrier “John F. Kennedy”.

The sailor who opened fire has been taken into custody, but no formal charges have been filed against them yet.
The aircraft carrier, which has not yet been handed over to the fleet and only successfully completed its first sea trials this February, is currently docked at the port of Newport (Virginia). “John F. Kennedy” is the second ship of the “Gerald R. Ford” class with a nuclear power plant. Its commissioning is scheduled for March 2027.
