Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the Israeli army to conduct airstrikes on the Dahiye district of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
elchi reports that Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced in a joint statement that the Israeli army will carry out new airstrikes on Beirut.
The statement claimed that the airstrikes, carried out under the orders of Netanyahu and Katz, would target Hezbollah positions in Beirut’s Dahiye district.
It was alleged that during a phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on May 30, Netanyahu requested permission from the Washington administration to conduct airstrikes on Beirut.
It was claimed that the Israeli army was unable to carry out airstrikes on Beirut due to the “veto” of US President Donald Trump.
Despite the ceasefire, Israel last carried out an airstrike on the Shuweifat district in southern Beirut on May 28.
Israel’s attacks on Lebanon and the ceasefire
On March 2, the Israeli army launched intensive airstrikes on Lebanon and occupied many cities in the south of the country.
The Lebanese government announced that the number of internally displaced persons in the country had exceeded 1 million during this period.
On April 24, US President Donald Trump announced that the 10-day temporary ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, which came into effect on April 17, had been extended for another 3 weeks.
As a result of the 3rd round of talks held between Lebanon and Israel on May 14-15 with US mediation, it was decided to extend the ceasefire for 45 days starting from May 17 and to hold the 4th round of talks in early June.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on May 25 that he had instructed the army to increase attacks on Lebanon.
The latest statement from the Lebanese Ministry of Health reports that 3,412 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on the country since March 2. Despite the ceasefire, the Israeli army continues its attacks and house demolitions in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah carries out attacks against Israeli soldiers and accuses them of violating the ceasefire.
