Saudi Arabia, together with an American defense startup and a local company, is launching a project for the production of long-range unmanned aerial vehicles modeled after Iran’s “Shahed” drones.
elchi reports that, according to the “Semafor” publication, the “SR2Vector” joint venture, created by the American company “Vector Defense” (Utah) and the Saudi startup “SR2 Defense Systems”, is building a strike drone manufacturing plant near Riyadh.
According to the report, the facility plans to produce “SKYWASP” kamikaze drones with a flight range of up to 1,500 kilometers. This distance is comparable to the distance from the northeast of Saudi Arabia to Tehran.
Lucien Ziegler, co-founder of “SR2”, noted that the project is aimed at strengthening Saudi Arabia’s defense capabilities, but did not disclose the implementation timelines, investment volume, or the planned scale of production.
