Russian President Vladimir Putin is visiting China a few days after US President Donald Trump, at a time when wars in Iran and Ukraine are ongoing and global power relations and geopolitical balances are shifting.
elchi reports that President Putin, who arrived in Beijing late last night for a two-day visit, was welcomed at the airport by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
This morning, a state ceremony will be held for the Russian leader at Tiananmen Square. After the ceremony, Putin will hold one-on-one and delegation-level meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and will return to his country this evening.
It is noteworthy that the Russian leader is visiting China a few days after Trump’s visit. The US President paid an official visit to China on May 13-15.
During his first visit to China in 8.5 years, Trump was welcomed at the airport by Chinese Vice President Han Zheng. In addition to the state ceremony and official meetings, Trump visited the historic Temple of Heaven in Beijing, attended a dinner held in his honor, and had tea with Xi Jinping before leaving the country.
