Pezeshkian: It is important to continue the dialogue with the US

Reviewing the progress of diplomatic consultations regarding the negotiations between Iran and the US, it is important to continue the dialogue and strengthen regional cooperation and coordination among Islamic countries.

elchi reports, citing ISNA, that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said this during a meeting with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

M. Pezeshkian expressed his gratitude to the Pakistani government for its position and efforts in supporting stability and constructive interaction in the region.

It should be recalled that on February 28, the US and Israel launched military operations against Iran, and airstrikes were carried out on a number of cities. On that day, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed as a result of the strikes. In response, Iran attacked Israeli territory and US military bases in Persian Gulf countries.

Iran, the US, and their allies reached a ceasefire agreement on the night of April 8. Trump later extended the ceasefire indefinitely.

The parties held negotiations in Pakistan to resolve the conflict, but the first round held on April 11-12 did not yield any results.

To exert pressure on Tehran, the US has blockaded Iranian ports and passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, in turn, has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz for ships heading to the Persian Gulf. The dynamically changing situation in the region has caused a global energy crisis.
