On May 20, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8), Sohail Mahmud, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan.
According to the information provided by the MFA to elchi, the Secretary-General expressed his gratitude for the high-level organization of the World Urban Forum (WUF-13), in which he participated, and for the productive discussions held within its framework.
During the meeting, the existing cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the D-8 was discussed, and opportunities for further development of relations in the fields of politics, economy, energy, transport, and logistics were reviewed.
Since Azerbaijan’s accession to the D-8, its active participation within the organization in a short period was highly appreciated. The organization of the first D-8 Week in Azerbaijan in October 2025, and the practical steps taken to establish the D-8 Energy and Climate Center, the D-8 Media Excellence Center, and the D-8 Transport Excellence Center in our country were recalled with satisfaction. An exchange of views took place regarding the work done in this direction.
In general, the importance of joint efforts to further increase the prestige of the D-8, which unites politically and economically important countries, a population of nearly 1.3 billion, and a GDP of 5 trillion, was emphasized.
Regional and international security issues were also reviewed at the meeting; the necessity of reducing tension in the Middle East, strengthening the ceasefire, and ensuring stability was noted, and an exchange of views was held on other issues of mutual interest.
