Erdoğan discussed Turkey-EU relations, regional developments, and cooperation with von der Leyen

A telephone conversation took place between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

“Elchi” reports, citing Turkish media, that Turkey-EU relations, regional developments, and topics on the global agenda were discussed during the conversation.

Von der Leyen stated that the talks were very productive and emphasized Turkey’s strategic importance. “Turkey is a key partner in a tense region,” she stressed.

Von der Leyen highlighted that the EU and Turkey share common interests in areas such as keeping trade routes open, maintaining energy flows, and ensuring the stability of supply chains, and stated that cooperation on these issues will continue.

Furthermore, Turkey’s contributions to de-escalation and its efforts aimed at a diplomatic solution in the context of the Iran issue were appreciated. During the conversation, the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus issues were also discussed, and it was stated that the EU is ready to support UN-led processes.

The parties agreed to continue the dialogue regarding the strengthening of Turkey-EU relations.
