Will the price of meat INCREASE during Eid al-Adha?

Every year, on the eve of Eid al-Adha, an increase in the price of animals offered for sale is observed. In various parts of the capital, the price of lamb ranges from 21-22 manats, while the price of beef fluctuates around 18 manats.

So, what will the price of meat be during this holiday?

elchi reports that, regarding the topic, agricultural expert Vahid Maharramov stated to Milli.Az that an increase of approximately 50 qepiks per kilogram of small ruminant meat has been recorded over the last month.

The purchasing power for meat in the country is low. Consumers mostly choose chicken, beef, and imported meat products.

According to the expert, there could be an increase of about 1 manat in the price of live animals during the holiday.

“During the Eid al-Adha period, preference is mainly given to purchasing live animals. Since small ruminants are primarily slaughtered, no significant price increase is expected for beef. Currently, small ruminants are sold at a live weight ranging from 9-16 kilograms. The price of one kilogram of lamb is currently around 22 manats. During the holiday period, this price is expected to rise to 23 manats.”

Vahid Maharramov added that, at the same time, a gradual decrease in the number of animals in the country is being observed.

“The main reasons for this are cited as a shortage of feed and a reduction in grazing areas. The loss of grass cover in some areas due to global warming further complicates the situation. For this reason, farmers and villagers are trying to sell their existing animals at higher prices to cover their costs.”
