The European Union is committed to previously signed agreements, but is ready to respond to new tariffs that may be imposed by the US.
“Elchi” reports that French President Emmanuel Macron stated this at a press conference following his meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
“We are in favor of free and fair trade and adherence to the rules of the World Trade Organization. There are signed agreements that must be respected, and if they are called into question, it will lead to a reconsideration of everything. If this or that country is threatened with tariffs, the EU has tools that must be activated in such cases,” Macron said while commenting on US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 25% tariff on European automotive industry products.
The French leader added that, in his opinion, in the current geopolitical era, the US and the EU “have more important things to do than rain down threats of destabilization.” He also expressed hope that “common sense will prevail as soon as possible” and that harmonious interaction between partners will be restored.
