An explosion at a firework factory in China’s southern Hunan province has left 21 people dead and 61 injured.
“Elchi” reports that, according to the Xinhua agency, the explosion occurred yesterday evening at a firework factory in Liuyang County, Changsha, the administrative center of the province.
The local Emergency Management Bureau announced that 21 workers died and 61 people were injured in the explosion.
Following the incident, firefighting and emergency teams were dispatched to the area, and search and rescue operations are ongoing.
Call from Xi Jinping
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for the mobilization of search and rescue efforts and for a swift investigation to hold those responsible for the incident accountable.
Xi noted that all local governments and relevant agencies must learn from the accident and increase workplace safety measures, and he ordered the strengthening of risk monitoring and control in key sectors.
The Ministry of Emergency Management has sent a team to the region to lead rescue and relief efforts.
