The number of Syrians who have returned from Turkey in a voluntary, safe, and orderly manner since 2016 is 1,407,568.
elchi reports that this information was released on the “X” social media account of the Turkish Ministry of Interior.
It was stated that the number of Syrians under temporary protection status in Turkey is 2,280,542, and the number of those who have voluntarily returned since December 8, 2024, is recorded as 667,565:
“According to data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), it is estimated that a total of 1,630,874 Syrians have returned to their country within the region since December 8, 2024. Looking at the distribution of returns by country, Turkey ranks first with 639,995 people. This shared data is obtained through the combined analysis of border crossings, population movement reports, and different data sources.
Comparing data from different dates as if they were from the same period to create news is a misleading approach far from reality.”
The Ministry of Interior emphasized that assessments suggesting official data and statements regarding the number of voluntary returns to Syria in some media outlets do not match are inaccurate.
