31-year-old Xin Tong has been arrested for operating a methamphetamine laboratory in Wells Hall, the largest academic building at Michigan State University. The incident disrupted educational activities on campus and caused over $20,000 in damage to the building.
elchi reports that Xin Tong has been charged with “intentional damage to a building” and “operating a methamphetamine laboratory.” State police stated that the suspect is being held at the Ingham County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
Unknown substances found in the building
Campus Public Safety Director Mike Yankowski stated at a press conference that the incident came to light after a report of illegal entry to the fifth floor of the building late Sunday night.
Police found Tong with multiple bags and duffel bags. During the search, substances including sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, methanol, isopropyl alcohol, acetone, and butane were discovered on doors and floors.
