Bulgaria may cancel security agreement with Ukraine

The “Revival” party in Bulgaria has submitted a draft resolution to parliament on the cancellation of the 10-year security agreement with Ukraine.

elchi reports that the local “Novinite” portal has provided information regarding this matter.

The initiative was put forward by MP Petar Petrov, who considers the agreement invalid as it was concluded without parliamentary approval. According to him, the draft resolution would force the Council of Ministers, acting on behalf of the parliament, to cancel the agreement signed by the caretaker government.

In parallel, the party has also submitted a draft resolution on the withdrawal of Bulgaria’s consent to state guarantees amounting to 1.2 billion euros related to the European Union’s support mechanism for Ukraine.

“Revival” party believes that the scheme for the repayment of funds creates financial risks for Bulgaria without a clear payment guarantee. “We believe that these funds should primarily be directed towards the needs of Bulgarian citizens,” Petrov emphasized.

He explained the party’s position by citing the economic situation in the country, including inflation, price increases, and the budget deficit.

It is expected that the draft resolutions will be discussed by deputies within the framework of the legislative process.
