Turkish MFA: The peace emerging in the South Caucasus is a powerful response to certain forces

The environment of peace and reconciliation emerging in the South Caucasus is a powerful response from those who want the region to become a basin of cooperation and stability to the forces trying to create enmity from history.

“Elchi” reports that these statements were included in a written declaration issued by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) regarding statements made by officials of some countries concerning the events of 1915.

The statement noted that some third-country politicians are observed attempting to use the issue for their narrow political calculations or as an attempt to cover up their own responsibilities.

It was noted in the statement that Turkey, which embodies the strongest examples of a culture of living together for centuries, has opened its archives to investigate the events of 1915 on a fair and scientific basis and has proposed the establishment of a “Joint History Commission,” and it was recalled that this proposal remains in effect.

“We invite third parties with constructive intentions to support the efforts aimed at achieving a common and fair memory and the constructive dialogue environment that has been developing recently,” the statement emphasized.

It should be noted that the events of 1915 are presented by some forces as the “Armenian genocide” and are considered one of the most controversial topics in history. Although the events during the Ottoman period are recognized as “genocide” by some states and historians, Turkey rejects this classification and proposes an objective investigation.
