Tesla increases AI and robotics spending to $25 billion

Tesla, as part of Elon Musk’s strategy to transform the company from an automaker into a leader in artificial intelligence and robotics, plans to significantly increase its capital expenditures.

elchi reports that Bloomberg has provided information on this matter.

The company stated that capital expenditures (capex) will exceed $25 billion in 2026—this is nearly three times more than the previous year and higher than the previous forecast of $20 billion. Elon Musk emphasized that investments will be “increased very significantly.”

The funds are planned to be directed toward expanding production, developing the humanoid robot Optimus, AI projects, and the development of autonomous transport, including the Cybercab. At the same time, Tesla’s traditional automotive business has shown a decline over the last two years.

Analysts note that the increase in spending reflects the high financial requirements of the company’s ambitions and could lower expectations for free cash flow.

Nevertheless, Tesla reported higher-than-expected profits in the first quarter and stated that there are signs of demand recovery in a number of markets. However, the energy sector showed a decrease in revenue.

The company also confirmed plans for the development of robotaxis and new products, including the Semi and Megapack energy storage systems. However, Musk expects significant revenue from robotaxis no earlier than 2027.
