The Iranian-flagged cargo ship seized by US forces was part of a fleet linked to a sanctioned Iranian state shipping company and had recently been operating on a route to China.

According to the source, the MV Touska vessel is operated by a subsidiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), which is accused of transporting cargo with potential military applications.
The ship was heading toward Iran after a trip to China at the end of last month.
