Lebanese President refuses to talk with Netanyahu

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has refused to hold talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

elchi reports that Israel’s N12 television channel has provided information about this.

According to the channel, the Lebanese President told US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with whom he spoke by phone about a possible meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister:

“I will not talk to Netanyahu.”

Aoun thanked Rubio for Washington’s efforts and comprehensive support in achieving a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

For his part, the US Secretary of State expressed his support for President Aoun’s position, emphasizing that efforts will continue to achieve a ceasefire and ensure peace, security, and stability in Lebanon.

It should be recalled that Israeli Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Gila Gamliel had previously announced that an online meeting between Benjamin Netanyahu and Joseph Aoun was planned:

“I hope this step will ultimately lead to the well-being and development of Lebanon.”

The Israeli minister noted that discussions on this matter had been ongoing for a long time.

US President Donald Trump had previously stated that Benjamin Netanyahu and Joseph Aoun would hold talks on April 16. He declared that this would be the first conversation between Israeli and Lebanese leaders in 34 years.
