North Korean leader Kim Jong Un announced new strategic plans to increase the country’s military capabilities, calling the new 600-millimeter multiple rocket launcher system the “world’s most powerful target attack weapon.”
“Elchi” reports that 50 new generation rocket launcher systems produced by ammunition factory workers were displayed at a ceremony in Pyongyang, the capital, ahead of the upcoming 9th Congress of the ruling Korean Workers’ Party (WPK), according to the North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
Speaking at the ceremony, Kim called the new 600-millimeter multiple rocket launcher system the “world’s most powerful target attack weapon,” claiming that this weapon is unparalleled in the world.
Kim stated that the weapon is equipped with artificial intelligence technology and advanced guidance systems, and claimed that the system is capable of destroying the military infrastructure and command centers of enemy countries with a single strike.
Kim announced that the “next stage plan to strengthen self-defense capabilities” will be announced at the party congress scheduled to be held at the end of the month, and emphasized that efforts to increase military power against foreign threats will continue uninterrupted.
The 600-millimeter rocket launchers with a range of approximately 400 kilometers, which were tested in January with the personal participation of leader Kim Jong Un, are considered to be fully ready for deployment with this ceremony.
Congress every 5 years
The congress, which is considered the highest decision-making body in North Korea and is held every 5 years, determines plans for the next 5 years, including economy, defense and diplomacy.
At the congress, which brings together party representatives and determines political and military priorities, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will announce a five-year plan for 2026-2031.
In a statement he made in September 2025, Kim said that the 2026 congress “will define a policy to promote the simultaneous development of nuclear and conventional forces in defense.”
