Vatican Will Not Participate in the Work of the Peace Council

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, has stated that the Holy See will not participate in the work of the Peace Council due to its unique nature, which is distinctly different from that of other states.

“Elchi” reports that the “Corriere della Sera” newspaper wrote about this.

Parolin noted:

“The Vatican will not participate in the Gaza Peace Council due to its specific nature, which is distinctly different from that of other states. There are some enigmatic points, some critical issues that require clarification.”

In January, Parolin announced that Pope Leo XIV had been invited to the Peace Council, which the United States called for to manage the Gaza Strip as part of the Middle East peace process. He noted that the issue was being considered.

On January 22, within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos, representatives of 19 countries signed the charter of the Peace Council, which was created to help peacefully resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip. Washington announced that other states had also joined the organization. The Peace Council was created on the basis of an agreement between Israel and the radical Palestinian Hamas movement to govern Gaza, but it is also expected to participate in the prevention and resolution of conflicts in other regions. The United States plays a leading role in this.
