AFFA’s new decision regarding teams losing by a large margin

Some innovations will be applied in the leagues organized by AFFA.

Elchi.az reports with reference to the official website of the organization that before the start of the 2025-2026 season, meetings were held at various dates in the administrative building of the federation with the online participation of representatives of clubs participating in the Azerbaijan Premier League, academies, other individual teams, and teams participating in centralized regions.

A number of issues were discussed at these meetings, proposals were evaluated, and some new decisions were adopted that were appropriate. As you know, results are not recorded and the tournament table is not applied in the AFFA U-8, AFFA U-9, AFFA U-10, AFFA U-11 and AFFA U-12 leagues. We often encounter large scores in the games of these age groups. In order to prevent players from losing their enthusiasm for football and to ensure match balance, the AFFA leadership held extensive discussions on this topic and made a decision that could eliminate this nuance.

According to the new decision, if any team is behind by 3 goals during the game, it can add 1 player to the main squad. If the difference between the scores is 6 goals, the losing team can add 1 more player to the main squad.
When the score difference drops to 4 goals, 1 of the 2 additional players on the field must leave the field.
In conclusion, 1 additional player can enter the field when there is a 3-goal difference, and another additional player can enter the field when a 6-goal difference occurs.
If the goal difference drops to 4 and 2, the players who entered the field must leave the field accordingly.
The maximum number of players that can be added to the field due to the score difference should be 2.
It is not mandatory to implement this rule. The team that is behind in the score may not add an additional player to the game, and this is the team’s own responsibility.
