In Japan, Tetsuya Yamagami, suspected of assassinating former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2022, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Elchi.az reports that, according to state television NHK, the verdict was issued in the Nara District Court in connection with the case of the assassination of former Prime Minister Abe in July 2022.
Speaking at the sentencing hearing, Yamagami’s lawyer argued that the suspect was “harmed by a religious group” and that his childhood led him to “kill Abe,” arguing that the prison sentence should not exceed 20 years.
Tanaka Shinichi, the presiding judge of the Nara District Court, announced that Yamagami was sentenced to life imprisonment in accordance with the panel’s decision.
